In a letter sent to Musk, New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin stated that the city's investigation will assess the risks of AI to public safety, cybersecurity, economic stability, privacy, consumers, and businesses, to determine whether immediate legislation is needed to protect New Yorkers.
SpaceXAI owns X and the chatbot Grok. However, Grok has been accused of generating large amounts of deepfake pornographic content using real people's images, leading to continuous lawsuits against SpaceXAI, including class-action lawsuits filed by minors.
The New York City Council said it has subpoenaed Musk to attend a full committee hearing on October 5. Representatives from AI giants including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta will also attend. (yc)
