Several Fed officials to speak, Eurozone to release consumer confidence index

The Economic News Agency reported on the 29th that US stocks fell yesterday, as markets continued to be weighed down by rising US Treasury yields, higher oil prices, and growing inflation concerns. Investors are also monitoring the developments in US-Iran relations, as well as a series of inflation and employment data due this week to assess the Federal Reserve's future interest rate path. The Dow Jones closed down 347.11 points, or 0.67%, at 51,481.51 points; the S&P 500 fell 59.72 points, or 0.77%, to 7,683.69 points; the Nasdaq dropped 248.34 points, or 0.92%, to 26,820.38 points. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index closed at 24,523, down 118 points or 0.5%, with turnover of HK$184.6 billion.

Regarding major economic events around the world, at 11:00 pm Hong Kong time tonight, Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Bowman will deliver a speech. At 11:30 pm, Bank of England MPC member Taylor will give a speech on inflation. At 1:00 am on the 30th, Chicago Fed President Goolsbee will participate in a Q&A session at an event hosted by the Chicago Fed. At 1:30 am, St. Louis Fed President Musalem will deliver a speech at the London School of Economics. At 2:00 am, New York Fed President Williams will deliver a keynote speech and participate in a dialogue at the University at Buffalo. At 3:00 am, Federal Reserve Governor Waller will deliver a speech at the Sibos 2026 conference.

On the data front, at 5:00 pm today, the Eurozone will release the September consumer confidence index, expected to worsen from -15.5 to -16.5. (wa)
